Holly Hill Inn Wine Guild Tastes Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir tasting at Holly Hill Inn Wine Guild
Pinot Noir continues to fascinate — though it is painful to see the alcohol percentages of this traditionally “lean” wine climbing up toward 15 percent. Steve Mancuso, Guildmaster for the Holly Hill Inn Wine Guild, offered excellent notes and guidance recently for a tasting of six bottles from four countries:

  • Regis Bouvier Bourgogne “En Montre Cul” 2007 (France)
  • Nobilo Icon Marlborough 2008 (New Zealand)
  • Apaltagua Reserva Estate Grown Curico Valley 2009 (Chile)
  • Erath Pinot Noir 2008 (Oregon)
  • Joseph Swan Cuvée de Trois, Russian River Valley 2007 (Sonoma, CA)
  • Clos Pepe Estate Santa Rita Hills 2004 (Sta. Rita Hills, CA)

The tasting forced me a bit farther toward thinking maybe my interest in light-bodied, food-friendly, not-too-fruity red wines has to find a new focus, perhaps in Italy or Spain. And that’s a good thing to know, a useful thing, along with all the other tasty tidbits Steve Mancuso dishes out at each informative, unpretentious, information-packed Wine Guild event.

The Wine Guild reflects Holly Hill’s wonderful approach to food and eating. Membership is free. The Inn keeps expanding the opportunities to learn about and enjoy the ways appropriate wines add pleasure to its beautifully prepared Kentucky foods. The monthly Local Harvest Sunday Buffet Dinners sound particularly wonderful. Make reservations now for these upcoming events. Holly Hill’s special occasions reliably — justifiably — sell out.
