I’ve been happily bumping into new Kentucky food blogs and websites:
Ashlee Eats: Young Louisvillian (and former reporter for the Lexington Herald-Leader) joined Americorps VISTA and launched her blog about her “search for good food at reasonable prices.” The tagline of Ashlee Eats is “Filet Mignon Taste. Dollar Menu Budget.” This blogger writes clearly, openly, and often. I especially liked knowing her Food Philosophy and her reports on her weekly adventures eating out on $10.
From My Kitchen Table: Maggie Green, Kentucky cookbook author, food writer/editor, and registered dietician, shares cooking tips, recipes, and information about what her family eats.
The Local Culinary Adventure: Several friends in Whitley County (Williamsburg area) decide to eat local foods for 30 days and describe their adventure. It’s intriguing to read about the challenges that came up during the month, and some of the resolutions. The site includes some lovely food photos.
Stirring the Pot: Kim, from Georgetown, describes recipes and tells about her experiences with cooking them. The primary focus of the blog is on cooking through all the recipes in Stirring the Pot, a cookbook by Tyler Florence. The focus is not directly on local food, but the author at times reports on where she found the ingredients locally that are needed for specific recipes.
Edible Louisville: Handsome online website and online bi-monthly magazine about eating locally in and near Louisville — part of Edible Communities, a national business of similar “Edibles” for other cities. Edited by former Courier-Journal food editor, local food champion, and cookbook author Sarah Fritschner.
Fun all around! I know there are more excellent blogs by Kentucky food writers about Kentucky food, and I hope you will share the ones you have located.
